welcome to in-home manners school!

What is in-home manners school?

Your trainer will come to your home and teach your whole family how to train and interact with your dog. We will teach you the skills you need to have an obedient dog, and to prevent or stop bad behavior. Whether you have a brand new puppy or an older dog in need of manners, we can help.

Manners school options include:

Puppy Manners (click to expand)

Nipping and house soiling and chewing, oh my! If you have a puppy under 5 months old, you surely have your hands full! But you also have a unique opportunity to do proactive training that will help your dog be confident, friendly and polite during his adult years.

We recommend that all puppies attend Puppy Manners Class if possible; research indicates that puppy class helps puppies stay friendly to people as adults. However, if you are willing to do a rock-awesome job of socializing your puppy to new people on your own and you’d like personalized help for manners and obedience, we’ve got the program for you!

  • Getting focus outside around distractions
  • Introduction to left-side walking

We recommend scheduling this program weekly for 1 month to allow time for practice between appointments.

If you are short on time or have a hard time maintaining control of your dog and would like to fast-forward progress, this program can also be taught via latchkey training ($350; includes a session for meet & greet, program intro, and key transfer).

We recommend scheduling this program weekly for 1 month to allow time for practice between appointments. Sessions 3 and 4 will require… visitors! We will ask you to find friends or family who are willing to drop by.

Advanced Visitor Manners – 8 Sessions

Important note: this program is for dogs who struggle with too-friendly or excited greetings. If your dog is aggressive or fearful toward visitors, you need to enroll in behavior consulting instead. If you aren’t sure, we can help you decide which program fits your situation best.

  • Strengthening the foundation stays by adding more duration
  • Increasing the level of visitor distraction your dog can work under
  • Adding an automatic go to kennel when the doorbell rings
  • Setting personalized visitor goals and training to achieve them!

We recommend scheduling this program weekly for 2 months to allow time for practice between appointments.

I have multiple dogs! What do I do?

You are welcome to enroll into any of the packages. The cost is the same for any number of dogs. Many times, owners who diligently do their homework can accomplish the training goals with both dogs. However, you may find that you need additional sessions, especially if your practice time is limited. Please do have reasonable expectations and remember that in our fast-paced society, dogs still learn at biological speed!

Why choose in-home manners school?

Convenient

We come to you! You don’t need to leave your home, drive across town, drag kids out of bed, hire a babysitter, or stress out over managing a dog and young children at a group class.

Flexible

We work around your schedule. You can choose daytime, evening, or weekend appointments. We also offer weekly scheduling for each appointment, so you never have to miss a class or put your life on hold.

Efficient

Doggy genius? Slow and steady learner? No problem. We will modify the pace, content, and techniques of each lesson to fit your and your dog’s specific needs. This is the most efficient type of instruction you can get. In addition, if you have multiple dogs, they may all be involved in each lesson at no additional cost.

Child-Friendly

We are comfortable working with & around kids of all ages, from nursing babies to toddlers to teens. All are welcome to be present. We will fine tune your child’s involvement in the lessons based on their age and abilities.

Effective

You will be training in your own home and neighborhood, so your dog will learn to obey you where you really need him to. Our positive, family and dog friendly techniques work for every breed, size, and age of dog. And since everyone can chip in, your dog will listen to all of your family members – not just mom or dad.

Dixie LOVED the training sessions and will miss Kathrine. The progress Dixie has made is remarkable. The training far exceeded my expectations and was more than worth the time and money. Thank you Kathrine!!! You were awesome!
